Where did all your disk space go?

DiskLens scans any folder and shows exactly what is eating your storage — a visual map, the biggest files, duplicate candidates, and what's safe to clean. Right in this browser tab.

🔒 100% local — files never leave your device⚡ No download, no account🗑️ Junk vs. backup classified for you

…or drag & drop a folder anywhere in this box. Everything runs on your computer.

Full scanning + staging works in Chrome, Edge & Brave. Safari/Firefox: drag-drop works read-only.

Where the space went

✨ AI cleanup plan beta

Sends only file names, sizes and dates (max 60 entries) — never file contents — and returns a plain-English plan: what's safe to delete, what deserves a cloud backup first.

Why a browser-based disk analyzer?

Nothing to install

Most disk cleaners are apps you download, grant full-disk access, and hope for the best. DiskLens is a web page. You pick one folder, we map it, you close the tab. That's it.

Nothing is uploaded

Scanning runs on your own machine using the browser's File System Access API. No server ever sees a byte of your files. The optional AI plan sees file names and sizes only.

Tells you what matters

Every file is classified: regenerable junk (caches, node_modules, build output, old installers) vs. things you should back up before deleting (photos, documents, code, archives).

Works on Mac, Windows & Linux

Any OS with Chrome, Edge or Brave gets the full experience — scan, visualize, stage files, export a cleanup script. Safari and Firefox get read-only drag-and-drop analysis.

How it works

  1. Pick a folder. Your whole home folder, Downloads, Projects — anywhere space is disappearing. Grant access when your browser asks.
  2. Watch the map build. Each rectangle is a file or folder, sized by disk usage and colored by category. Click any block to zoom into it.
  3. Review the findings. Top 50 largest files, duplicate candidates, and category totals with the "safe to clean" number up front.
  4. Act safely. Check boxes to stage files, then export a reviewed cleanup.sh script — or delete directly (Chrome/Edge/Brave, with double confirmation).

Frequently asked questions

Is DiskLens really free?

Yes — scanning, the treemap, the largest-files list, duplicate detection, and CSV export are all free. During the public beta the AI cleanup plan is free too.

Can a website safely scan my files?

Yes, because of how the File System Access API works: your browser only lets the page read the one folder you explicitly pick, and everything is processed in memory on your machine. The page has no way to upload your files, and the AI plan sends only file names, sizes and dates.

What is the difference between "safe to clean" and "back up first"?

"Safe to clean" items are regenerable: dependency caches (node_modules), build output (dist, DerivedData), browser caches, logs, and old installers (.dmg, .pkg). "Back up first" items are things you cannot regenerate: photos, videos, documents, code and archives.

Does deletion go to the Trash?

No — browsers can only delete permanently, so DiskLens defaults to analysis + staging. You can export a cleanup script to review line-by-line, or use in-browser deletion behind two confirmation dialogs. When in doubt, back up first.

Which browsers work best?

Chrome, Edge and Brave support full folder scanning and staging. Safari and Firefox can still analyze via drag-and-drop (read-only).
